bmwir BMW Testing Night Vision in VehiclesAutoMotoPortal has an interesting demo video of a new development at BMW. They are working on adding infared cameras to aid in night vision as a feature in 7 series BMW vehicles The technology consists of an infared sensor mounted below the front bumper The images from this sensor are then piped to a monitor that allows the driver to see a ‘night vision’ representation of the road in front of him The video shows how a roller blader and a jogger are hidden in darkness but easily seen in the infared display as the BMW drives by.

I’d like to see this new technology coupled with a heads up display though As the tendency for drivers on a dark night is to look up and out, not down at a monitor on the dash board Still, it’s cool new technology and good news for anyone who goes out to exercise at night all dressed in black.
